I love Adriana Trigiani! Being of Italian decent myself, she always makes me laugh with the interaction amongst the family. I think it’s inherent that Italian mothers and daughters have problems living with each other. ♥️
Love the quotes, photos and thoughts. Thank you. Here's another desert musing: “Drifting across the vast space, silent except for wind and footsteps, I felt uncluttered and unhurried for the first time in a while, already on desert time.”
~ Rebecca Solnit, Wanderlust: A History of Walking
great post, enjoyed with my cup of evening tea --- i can barely think about what is happening at the grand canyon, but your little postcards gave me a feeling of peace, thanks tom!
Ahhhh, the best way to close a Monday! Meditation and nature quotes. Hoping you can bring us along on your trip to Ohio! Looking forward to hearing about your long awaited visit.
I think Samwise must be a very old soul...Every close up of his face requires me to just stare at it, drink it in...who is he? where does he come from? what does he see and how? he touches me much as does my little dog...who are you? And how lucky am I... Thank you for being his friend, Tom...
Just back from an overnight to Turners Falls Massachusetts to hear/see Judy Collin’s concert at the Shea Theatre. Since my drive home would have been in pitch blackness I stayed across the street from Emily Dickerson’s homestead in a gothic Victorian home, The Amherst Inn in Amherst Ma. The magic happened when Judy Collin’s, now 86, started discussing her new book of poetry. An accomplished pianist, she sang to her piano chords one of her poems from”Sometimes It’s Heaven”. Some of us cried for the beauty she shared with us. Her voice reached soprano levels you can imagine are only heard in Heaven.
So, being bookended by Dickerson and Collin’s was an expected ethereal time for me, and a bookmark in my life. Wish everyone was there.
“Overcome fear, behold wonder.” And I feel myself leaning back from the abyss Tom. Heights ! Here is another Female author for you that was just introduced to me through a birthday gift. Diane Oliver and her one and only book. NEIGHBORS and other stories. She died in a motorcycle accident at 22 years of age. The literary world is diminished by her death.
That last photo of Em at the Grand Canyon took my breath away. And reminded me of the sad news of fire at the North Rim. Your photos are stunning. What a beautiful countryside we live in.
Contemplative quotes and gorgeous photos...thank you!
p.s. I am traveling to northern Italy and the Dolomites this Saturday for a couple of weeks and will see the region where Lake Como is located :).

The last picture of Emily and the quote...chef's kiss..perfection!

I feel the same way when I look at Samwise. He’s such a special soul.
Love this post and the photos are orgasmic. Thanks Tom Samwise and Emily. Made my evening.
The photos and quotes are wonderful! Thanks so much for sharing them.
I love this idea of photos and author's quotes. I know so few that is fun to read them.
Thank you for the photo and quote day!

Judy Collins gave a marvelous concert at the college where I taught. Her voice is ethereal.
I have listened to her music over my lifetime but only saw her once in concert at Worcester Polytechnic Institute back in my 20’s. Good memories!
