Into the abyss. So fitting today of all days. The look felt like a blessing or benediction. Indescribable. Thanks too for the PS. I wondered but didn't want to ask.
I am so grateful you share these moments with us. I might never have the opportunity to travel to these places. You literally make these parks come alive to your readers. The interaction with the wild horse was wonderful.
Indeed magical, I wanted to show you a picture of the horse my friend had. His name was Smoky and looked identical to the one in your post. The two of them were bonded for life and have
since passed on. We rode through the north Georgia mountains with the greatest of speed. Thank you for sharing your video.
Thank you for making this a special day! I have always loved horses, but have never gotten to be around them much. I will be watching this several times.....the tears are falling. Beautiful! :)
Horses have magic in their eyes. In my life I always had a horse until I divorced a man I no longer knew. The favorite times I recall were when they were in cleaned munching the feed, slurping up fresh water. It was like tucking in the children for me. My dad built me a barn and my springer spaniel would lead the way flushing birds from the meadows. I understand what a treasure that must have been to have her so close by.
This encounter was so beautiful, touching, and spiritual-- and those words don't adequately describe what I am feeling. Thank you so much for sharing this intimate connection with us.
Your post reminds me of Mary Oliver’s poem “Blue Horses.” The mare probably is as moved by your meeting as you are. I wonder what she thinks of you three. Is she curious? Communicative? Reflective? How wonderful to meet symbiotic souls who can transcend the limits of species to relate to each other.
Because of you, I am traveling to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons next month for a week. I am looking forward to relishing time with the wilds. I have read one book each about the wolves, bears, and elk in the park and I just finished reading a very illuminative novel called This Place is Yellowstone which delves back 1.2 million years ago to depict the geological formation of this magnificent volcanic crater. Thank you for your poignant descriptions of your journey, you say your body is breaking down, but I feel your soul is restored.
Thanks for this beautiful post. I used to live in Dickinson and spent many hours in that park. I even rode the 48 mile loop on my bike one hot August morning. The horses were usually present but I never got as close as you did. Your post brought back many memories. I found the park a great place to reset myself while fighting depression.
What a stunning experience. I hunger for such moments with horses, who I know to be imbued with so much wisdom that we can only scratch the surface of understanding what they know. Thank you for sharing this with us. I will carry it close through this holy weekend.

What a beautiful encounter to share. I'm in awe
Unbelievable, Tom! Perhaps he understood the deep respect you 3 have for the Wild! What a gift you all received!

As a lifelong lover of horses, thank you so much for this. A beautiful moment, captured in words and shared with all of us.

Thank you for sharing this incredible moment! Your stories always give me a feeling of peace, but this one
gave me all the feels.
The picture of this magnificent creature connecting with all 3 of you is priceless, but I know it can’t even compete with what you felt in the moment.
In this time of unrest, your words always settle me.
Onward, by all means!

Truly astounding. Such a beautiful animal. You can feel a reverence and peace in her soulful gaze. Amazing. Thank you.
That's so cool
