We Could Live Here
We could live here.
In past travels, I’d never admit to such a thing, never even entertain the thought. But the world is different now, and so am I.
Like most of you, I am impacted by the Russian war against Ukraine. To see the mass exodus, murder, and crimes against humanity sickens me. The world is witnessing millions of Ukrainians leaving their homes, never to return.
I can’t imagine the horror these people are experiencing due to the ego of a madman.
Watching tens of millions change everything about their lives wakes me up. It adds perspective. I’m privileged in many ways and know nothing of the hardships Ukrainians are suffering. Life here is easy; carefree in comparison.
Until recently, when the war began, I’ve mourned how old New England has changed during the pandemic. The Norman Rockwell towns of northern New England are becoming as Crate & Barrel, and Pottery Barn as any other attractive region is now. Yankee New England is losing its distinction.
