It’s a lovely afternoon here in Kanab. Samwise is sunning himself on the red dirt while Emily is sleeping in the shade beneath my writing table on the back patio. A desert breeze trying hard to be a wind tickles the bare branches of the cottonwood trees, and, for a change, a thin layer of white clouds covers the sky. It’s not enough to keep the sunshine away, and I am hopeful we may have a vibrant sunset.
We are two weeks into our stay in this charming town along the Arizona border. This is the point in a more extended stay where I usually begin to get restless, dreaming about our future adventures. But not this year. I’m content in Kanab. We all are.
