The Glory of Stars, the Joy of Swimming
I feel more than a little broken. The world has grown strange and hard, and the bad guys (and gals) seem to be winning. We live in an increasingly bewildering America where guns have more rights than women.
As a man in his early sixties, one could argue none of this impacts my life. But as someone who roots for the country and the world to grow kinder and gentler, I’m throttled by what I see.
It’s impossible to have even the barest strains of empathy and not feel women's pain, especially minorities.
I’ve spent the past few days reaching out to female friends, offering them my ears, heart, and understanding. If I’m this distraught, I can only imagine their level of despair.
Other than our conversations, I’ve reined myself in even further than usual. Weekends do this to us anyway, but it felt more important to surround myself with quiet and the sweetness of nature since Friday’s news broke.
