Words do not come easy this week. The terror of Uvalde on top of the Buffalo, New York shooting, and the continuing atrocities in Ukraine horrify and humble me.
In response to the gathering darkness, I wanted to offer you some light. The video was taken when we were in Theodore Roosevelt National Park. We rose before dawn under the prairie stars to spend a few hours with the bison.
It is one of the smaller and lesser-visited parks, and we had it to ourselves until we left. It made for a remarkable morning. I am thankful Emily and Samwise are as gentle and respectful of wildlife as they are. It allowed us to be near these majestic souls from both within and outside of Clarence.
You’ll be reading more about why we are drawn to bison in the coming weeks. For now, though, due to my shortcomings, I’ll lean on Whitman.
