So it begins—the month this trip was built around. We were intrigued by Kanab when we visited for a handful of days two years ago. Last year, we returned for February and rented a comfortable home with an astounding backyard view. There was no doubt we’d return, God willing, and the good folks who rented to us are kind enough to welcome us back.
Kanab is quaint and quiet this time of year, a perfect destination for a solitary who loves to roam, write, read, and celebrates privacy.
If the Hollywood western landscape were not so sprawling, it would be a cozy place to winter. The temperatures range from just below freezing overnight to low sixties in the early afternoon. When friends ask about the weather, I describe it as October in northern New England.
