Fall foliage season around here is a lot like the month before Christmas. There’s the initial anticipation, a handful of sugar maples flame red early on and this fuels the excitement. A handful of trees, mostly maples north of the notches or those by ponds and rivers begin to blush. This feels like the first snow of the year. Then, before you know it the flood of colors is on.
Yesterday, it became clear that the understory is now more flush than the overstory. Tree tops are thinner, but still too beautiful to seem real. By this point next week, nearly all the trees will let their leaves go. For now though, we walk in giddiness and gratitude!
