I am never prepared for the Sequoias. They humble, inspire, and awe; add perspective, make me feel more alive and aware. These magnificent giants tower above and ground me in the holiest of cathedrals.

Usually, National Parks don’t offer us much since Samwise and Emily are limited by where they can go. We are but windshield tourists. Occasionally, though, we luck out. Due to last year’s fire, one of the roads was closed to traffic. Metal gates across a Park Service road always serve as an invitation for us to journey where others are not.

We walked seven miles on Sunday morning and the only other souls we saw were squirrels, chipmunks, birds, and a mother bear and her two cubs. Alas, I did not get good photos or videos of any of them. Either way, we my iPhone would not have done them justice. Its one failing point is its zoom.

I have much to share with you and will send out a letter tomorrow.
