Greetings from the White Mountains!
I do so love northern New England. After 400 years, it’s mostly held onto its historic charm. Although I'm not a churchgoer, a village doesn't seem quite right without a white-steeple church. General stores make the world seem more innocent. Country inns and covered bridges make me sigh. Yes, we are going through changes in the pandemic era, and many of the historic places I love are being modernized and made more convenient. Like Newburyport, when I finally decided to leave everyone and everything I knew to be home, places are losing their characters and character. So I cleave to that which still resonates and celebrate them with gratitude. There’s a reason why I spent this summer hanging Norman Rockwell and Will Moses prints on my walls. As the world races forward, I surround myself with that which comforts me.
