We got more snow in Delaware than I see on the video! Lots of frozen ponds and water-ways. Should get a slight thaw this coming week… but ice/snow is still everywhere!

The video is on the beach where the tide comes and goes. We have 20 inches. Many folks are still snowed in. Did you read the piece or just watch the video?

While your letters always touch the heart and bring a smile to my face while reading, this morning you reached deep into the soul and soothed it by sharing some of the audio of your beach walk. Hearing the gentle (for the Atlantic) surf lapping the beach and sand crunching beneath your feet was balm for me. Bless you sir, and bless your cottage and blessings over Sam and Emi. Thank you ☺️

If I remember correctly, you know this area well, Cyndy.

"Gentle"... the word jumped out at me when you spoke about the night time visit from the fox, and again today when you speak to Samwise and Emily about the coyote. If dogs (and other animal species) can understand the need to be respectful of others, why is so hard for the human species? In fact, I believe many humans today believe it is their right to be extremely disrespectful … especially those in position of leadership. I don't get it. What's the payoff?

Did you ever hear Jane Goodall explain why dogs were her favorite species, and not chimps? She said it was because chimps were too much like humans. Speaks volumes.

I have, and I agree. Wise woman.

BTW, I just read your most recent post, and agree with you about writing letters. I have written many emails over the past few years, but have not written a single personal letter. It hit me like a ton of bricks when I received the beautiful hand written letter you sent me. It actually brought tears to my eyes. What a gift! I plan to write back soon, and to write a few letters to others I know will also be grateful! It really is true that kindness is contagious! Tom... do you have any idea how many you have "infected" just by your posts etc?

One other note... Here on the Crystal Coast of NC, we received more snow that I've seen in my 23 years living here.... somewhere between one and two feet... and it's absolutely gorgeous!

Always love reading about your adventures and so agree with your concern about what is happening to us with madmen in charge.

Thank you for taking us with you three on your beach walk. Listening to the waves were so calming and beautiful. Watching Emily and Samwise is what I needed to start my day!

We had the privilege on this farm two days ago to witness our resident fox catch a rodent beneath the snow, and I was grateful for the fortitude it brought him in this biting cold.

“Happiness consists in finding out precisely what the ‘one thing necessary’ may be, in our lives, and in gladly relinquishing all the rest. For then, by a divine paradox, we find that everything else is given us together with the one thing we needed.” - Thomas Merton

My first thought, when reading Merton's letter to Rachel Carson, was "This is something our Congress should read!"

It seems the great I Am has placed you where you need to be in this new journey and gifted you with what you

, Sam and Em needed to feel at peace. It is evident in your writing that this was a divine interception. So happy for you three.

Interesting choice of music! Love it. Very "medieval" as a grand entrance. Thank you for sharing your newest adventure. Maggie, Vera, and I welcome the distraction to Midwest cold and the happenings North of us. Have you ever considered a PTV documentary of some of your writings/experiences? It would be welcomed!

Thanks for the Merton quotes, Tom. I was thinking of the monks and their walk for Peace. Trying to make each day a "peaceful day", but that is challenging now. May you and your pups continue to enjoy your solitude.

I think we're 6 inches or more here with today's snow but Raleigh got little! It will be some days before I'll be able to get Bob out to the car with his walker or wheelchair.. miss our garage. Delighted you've found a place, ace of solitude and wonder

I’ve seen some reports of traffic chaos down your way, Christina!

That beach walk is good for the soul. Y'all are, for sure, walking in beauty. We have a fabulous 16 inches of snow from last weekend's storm and another unexpected inch today. Molly is a happy snow dog and it sure brings out the kid in me.

Tom Ryan's avatar

Are you fully recovered, Cathy?

Cathy McMillan Hall's avatar

My knee is about 95%. Completely healed but some aches at times. Sometimes I probably overdo it a bit being on my feet and the deep freeze we are having is a bit of a bother. Still, I'm quite happy that it's this good after only 4.5 months. Molly's thrilled that we can run again, not walk, on the agility course. Thank you, Tom, for asking. Hoping you all are enjoying the snow days!

How good to know the 3 of you are enjoying this very silly winter! We do love snow but are looking forward to being just a tad warmer:) Seeing the pups on the beach is joyful. We are always amazed at how they understand "gentle". They could teach that to the world!

These temps and weather feel like a cleansing when you immerse yourself in it. It feels powerful to be out in its beauty Enjoy the Snow moon tonight. It should be a stunner down there

Ah, one would think, other than the clouds coming with the snowstorm beginning in a few hours.
