Good morning.
It’s still dark here in Jackson. The sun won’t rise for another hour yet. It will set at 6:35 pm, making this the day of the year when night takes over, lasting a minute longer than sunlight.
We’re still a tangle at this moment. Emily has her head on the other pillow but her body pushed up against my chest. Samwise is pressed against me from my hips down, his head resting on my feet. These are their usual positions. (Makes me wonder how they’d handle it if I ever took another lover!)
Sam likes to start on his dog bed while I am still reading before turning in for the night, but once I close my book and click off the light, he joins us. This began happening earlier once I placed the mattress on the floor to accommodate Emily after surgery.
The window is open, the last of the night air spills in. A fan in the kitchen (pointing out) pulls it through. This feeling, even this last week of September when summer warmth has modestly returned, makes for comfort and closeness. I reli…
