There is joy in knowing what makes you happy. It is multiplied when you can also make another happy. Our time in the desert was eventful, and I loved the open skies and foreign landscapes. It was clear that Samwise and Emily did as well. But after spending months in the drylands, I changed our plans, knowing how nice it would be to see the Pacific Ocean. Initially, we were headed straight to the Monterey Peninsula from Tuscon, but the open road called. There were stops in Las Vegas and Palm Springs, and I knew what would make Emily happiest would be more water time. So, it was off to San Diego, where I’d read about their numerous dog beaches.
Our last desert nights were spent in Palm Springs, then we spent the morning driving across the arid Anza-Borrego Desert.
