Beavers...and a Confession

In the last post, I promised you a confession. But first, I'm here to write about my love and concern for our beavers. I worry about the local population because we just don't see them as often as we used to.

Blame it on our current drought, but more so on the creep of civilization.

I have no idea how much the pandemic migration has swelled the Valley's population, but I do know that most of those vacation homes are now filled year-round. That was never the case. After ski season, the Valley would sigh and relax until Memorial Day. Post-Labor Day, there were a few gracefully quiet weeks before the leaves changed. The next recess stretched from Columbus Day until Christmas week. Those days are forever gone; like us, the bears, moose, and beavers no longer enjoy as much peace.

Then there is this year's drought.
